Firefighter Safety and the Fireground

Ideally, every firefighter on the fireground should have a very good working knowledge of the basics of RIT and Firefighter Survival and Rescue techniques. Along with this, they should also have a deep personal appreciation for the importance and need for safety to exist on the fireground. We should never hear a firefighter say, “I don’t need to worry.” This appreciation for safety should be a fundamental part of their training and show in their actions on the fireground. Yes, the fireground is always inherently dangerous, we need to be cautious, but not so stringent that it effects our abilities to complete our tasks.

This course can be both lecture and hands on (or stand-alone topics) will talk about basic situation awareness on the fireground as well as look at why “things went bad” and what we can do to improve the overall safety of our crews. This is an interactive course and does require participation from the attendees along with an open mind about when “we were accidently successful”.

The hands-on portion of the course is geared specifically to the understanding of ladders, and the importance of them on EVERY fireground, no matter what your staffing levels are.

The instructor is a dynamic and energetic presenter along with his unique teaching style makes a somewhat “awkward” topic one we are willing to look into.  Attendees will leave looking at FF safety and the fireground in a different light.
