Patrick Sawyer
Patrick Sawyer is a career firefighter for the City of Lansing, MI. He is married to his wife Arianne and has 3 children, 2 stepchildren, and 4 grandchildren. He also realizes that the initial statement makes him sound old… At a young age, Patrick was drawn to the service of others. Introduced to the fire service through the Jackson Area Career Center instructor and retired City of Jackson Firefighter Robert Thurman he Initially enlisted in the US Army Reserve as a combat medic with the intent of entering the Lansing Community College Regional Fire Academy and joined a local on-call department and continued his education. Upon completing his initial enlistment he again enlisted in the US Marine Corps on active duty achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Patrick remained serving as a volunteer firefighter while on active duty and was appointed to the Lansing Fire Department in 2016. Patrick has a Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management, is a state certified fire officer 2, Fire Instructor, and a Pro Board Certified hazardous materials technician with a specialization in highway transport. He is in his 25th year of service, and focuses his training classes on fire attack and attack-based search and rescue skills from the perspective of the Engine Company back end, this includes forcible entry, creating alternative access points, fire attack, search and rescue from the attack line.
